Pank’s Reflections / Instantaneous No. 627: If I really wanted to…

I was listening to fighters prior to a major competition referencing past failures in their careers. There is a specific semantics that I hear as frequently in the training hall as in clinical consultations:

« If I had really wanted to, I could have… won, achieved my goals, moved forward, changed aspects of my life. »

Yet, factually, we can simply observe that when it was necessary to be in that state of drive, it was not present. We know that retrospective perspective is merely a rationalization.

Acknowledging with absolute sincerity that we did not want it that much can serve to challenge goals we sold to ourselves, sometimes rather prematurely—much like a child who throws a tantrum for something, yet three hours later no longer understands the reason for the outburst.

An inclination should ideally develop into a desire, and subsequently into a goal structured rationally while accounting for emotional alignment and physical execution. It is neither a mere impulse nor simple motivation. Furthermore, when facing deadlines or obligations, whether one « feels like it » becomes irrelevant; it is no longer a factor to consider. One must execute, experience, act, and accept the effort, rather than crafting narratives that change nothing and ultimately impede new initiatives and goal recalibrations.

Take what is good and right for you. Be One, Pank. https://www.pank.one/blog
